Help spread the word that heart disease also affects women.

Michelle Meredith had a pacemaker fitted at age 31. She is supporting the Red Dress Campaign. This is her story:
“My pacemaker was fitted 4 years ago following many bouts of fainting and blackouts some with dire consequences. I fell down a flight of stairs, woke up on a grass verge surrounded by strangers and had to recover in many shops, etc. Getting my final diagnosis took a while as other avenues had to be explored. Finally I had a carotoid massage and blacked out. At last they had a solution to a problem that had been getting me down.
At the Liverpool Cardiothoracic Centre I was probably one of the youngest people on the ward so lots of my friends and family visited before and after the procedure. I only have praise and good things to say about all the staff who were supportive and sympathetic.
My condition was not life threatening but the symptoms were. Before my pacemaker I was on a written warning in work due to sick leave now I have been promoted. I am not anxious about travelling and even drive now.
Two years ago I became a mum with a normal delivery and pregnancy. Without the pacemaker my life would have been very different”.
