How to donate
There are many ways you can donate to the Red Dress Campaign, via the Cardiothoracic Centre’s Merseybeat Appeal. No matter how large or small your donation will make a difference.

Your donation could be worth more, at no extra cost to you!
Make your donation go further with Gift Aid. If you are a UK tax payer we can reclaim the tax you have already paid on your donation. For every £1 you give the Merseybeat Appeal can gain an additional 28 pence.
To qualify for gift aid, what you pay in UK income or capital gains tax must at least equal the tax the Merseybeat Appeal will reclaim on your donations in the tax year.
Income Tax is paid, not only on earnings from employment or self-employment, but also on interest on savings accounts, dividends paid out on investments, most pensions, and even some benefits such as jobseekers’ allowance.
To apply gift aid to your donation simply complete the gift aid declaration on our donation form, select the gift aid option online or give a verbal declaration over the telephone.

Committed or regular giving is one of the most valuable and consistent ways our donors can support us. Giving regularly creates a continuing income stream and enhances our organisations sustainability providing us with the opportunity to plan long term - finding the best ways to address the underlying causes of coronary heart disease through research.
Give As You Earn
Payroll Giving, what is it?
Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme which allows anyone who pays UK Income Tax, to give regularly and on a tax free basis to the charities of their choice.
You simply authorise your employer to deduct your donation from your wages and because deductions are made before PAYE tax is deducted, the charity receives the full amount pledged including the money you would have otherwise paid in tax. For example giving £10 a month will only cost a basic rate tax payer £7.80 because they save £2.20 on tax. For a higher rate tax payer the cost is only £6 because they save £4 on tax.
What are the benefits of Payroll Giving?
For the charity - The major advantage for charities like is being able to rely on a regular, reliable source of income, which allows us to plan ahead for the future with confidence.
For employees - Employees can make charitable donations straight from their gross salary to the charity they choose.
For employers - The benefits of having a payroll giving scheme is good for your business, it shows your company is committed to working in partnership with the community – something that is important to your customers and staff. It is easy and inexpensive to run and you get a deduction against your profits for any costs you may incur.
How do I start Payroll Giving?
Employer – Your employee’s ask you to deduct regular charitable donations from their pay. You make the deductions from before tax pay – in other words after calculation of National Insurance contributions but before deduction of Pay as You Earn Tax. This way the employee gets tax relief at their top rate tax.
Payroll giving must be administered through an Inland Revenue registered Payroll Giving Agency, for example Charities Trust (www.charitiestrust.org). The Payroll Giving Agency will handle all administration of the programme. Once you have joined up with the Payroll Giving Agency you need to distribute donation forms authorising you to make a deduction for your employee’s salary to the charity of their choice. Then at the end of the month/week (depending on when your staff get paid) you simply pay the donations over to the Agency with a listing of the employee names and how much they have had deducted from their salary. The Payroll Giving Agency will then distribute these monies to the relevant charities.
For more information about setting up a Payroll Giving scheme contact Merseybeat Appeal Fundraising Office on - 0151 600 1423 or email merseybeat@ctc.nhs.uk. Alternatively, if your employer has a scheme in place and you would like to donate to the Merseybeat Appeal simply complete the Payroll Giving Form give it to your payroll department and they'll do the rest.

Shares Why not donate shares and support a good cause?
Since April 2000 there have been generous tax incentives for both individuals and companies to give shares to charity. You can now claim income tax (or corporation tax) relief on the value of most shares and securities. Also, you are exempt from any tax or capital gains that might have arisen if the shares had been sold. It could be a wise investment decision because of the tax relief, which can be claimed on the value of the shares.
