History of the Red Dress Campaign
Permission to launch the Red Dress Campaign was received from The National Heart, Blood & Lung Institute (NHLBI) in Washington DC.
Ann Taubenheim, Co-ordinator - NHLBI, explained: "NHLBI is very pleased that The Cardiothoracic Centre in Liverpool, England became the first international partner of The Heart Truth Campaign on February 12th, 2004, when it launched its Red Dress Campaign.
The Red Dress, introduced by The Heart Truth as the symbol for women and heart disease awareness, will now carry it's lifesaving message to women in England: 'Heart disease doesn't care what you wear-it's the #1 killer of women.' The entire Heart Truth team applauds The Cardiothoracic Centre's commitment to helping women find out their risk of heart disease and take steps to lower it."
The launch of the Red Dress Campaign took place on 12th February 2004 at the City Exchange, Liverpool. Businesswoman and TV personality Esther McVey gave her support to the campaign, along with Comedian, Ken Dodd, Radio Presenter, Roger Phillips, and many more from Liverpool's show business, medical and business sectors.
Royal Dress Designer, Lindka Cierach, officially unveiled a specially designed red dress as a visual alert to get the message across ‘Heart disease doesn’t care what you wear….It is now the number one killer of women in the UK’.
